YULETIDE 2022
Dear Author:
It's already Yuletide season. I am further convinced time is a Lie.
That said, thank you for choosing to participate in Yuletide this year. I'm happy to be sharing a fandom or two with you, and hope we both have a great time writing this year. To be honest, I almost didn't sign up, but so many series I wanted to write for were nominated, so I couldn't help myself.
Please regard the prompts I've written as suggestions: if you have your heart set on writing something else, I will love it, so long as it remains mindful of the DNW list.
I am always open to treats!

For your comfort, NSFW LIKES AND DNWs are separate.
Thank you, and happy writing!

Spiral: The Bonds of Reasoning

(Available in official e-book format; unofficial translation here; there is an anime, but please don't watch it.)
Characters: Narumi Ayumu & Yuizaki Hiyono (shipping OK!)
I love opposites attract pairings. Ayumu is cynical, pessimistic, and seemingly indifferent after being constantly beaten down and outshined by his older brother at literally every turn of his existence. Hiyono is bossy, loud, an absolute terror who knows way too much about things ordinary high school girls should not know and possesses unwavering faith in Ayumu's deductive abilities. Bullying is a love language here, and I love that for them: He's bristly and almost never has anything nice to say about her, and she aggressively drags him off his ass and into her pace to keep him moving.
Highlight for spoilers
From the beginning, Ayumu suspects Hiyono was planted to manipulate him, but he gets attached to her anyway. Similarly, Hiyono is portrayed by a woman who is implied to be something like a spy or secret agent, who ends up falling for her mark (I love this trope). Knowing they can't be together, they shake hands and smile as they part ways, then break down the moment they're alone. Their reunion two years later is bittersweet: despite advancements that can prolong Ayumu's life, they will not stop his deterioration.
Suggested Prompts:
Pretty Boy Detective Club/Bishounen Tanteidan

From the moment Manabu twirled and dipped Mayumi on the observation deck under a starry sky, I was sold. This anime is gorgeous and Manabu and Mayumi's dynamic is intellectually driven (since it's a mystery series), supportive and built on mutual respect. While Manabu is younger and understandably naive, he's clever and more sensitive to the feelings of people around him than one would assume a self-proclaimed "pretty boy" would be. He builds Mayumi's confidence, encourages her to think for herself and respects her perspective. What surprised me about Manabu is how he anticipated and openly welcomed Mayumi consulting a former enemy when she hit a mental block, when she had felt guilty and went to great lengths to hide it.
Mayumi begins the series down on herself, and thinking she's out of her league compared to the Pretty Boy Detective Club, but after receiving their aid, she resolves to help others by joining them. While her ability to perceive what others can't is an asset, her thoughts and friendship are just as valuable. In the last case of the anime, the club uncovers a conspiracy to promote a stricter school culture that discourages individuality. If it were a success, the school would become an environment that would actively crush Manabu's free spirit. When Mayumi's life is threatened, Manabu makes the decision to stop the investigation, prioritizing her safety over his future school life.
I like Manabu and Mayumi as a ship but I am okay with genfic that maintains their rapport as colleagues and friends. If you would like to age up the characters for ship purposes, I would prefer a timeskip over an AU.
Suggested Prompts:
Blue Period (anime on Netflix)

Characters: Hashida Haruka, Takahashi Yotasuke and Yaguchi Yatora (in any combination)
Blue Period is an interesting series because it doesn't need an antagonist to have conflict. Who needs a villain when crippling self-doubt, depression and impostor syndrome exist?
Yatora is wonderfully complex. He's definitely not perfect and learning on all fronts; his relationship with Yuka, struggles with Yotasuke and school all point to this, but he is improving. His opinion of himself and of his art is low, but his work strikes an emotional chord. The arc that helps Yatora see Yotasuke as a person with flaws and his own troubles and worries was much needed and well-executed, but after their trip around Shibuya together this relationship was set aside.
Yotasuke sometimes feels like a cat in human form and that is a charm point, to me. Converse to Yatora, he's confident in is technical art skills, but struggles to create emotional connections both in art and with people. Despite initially being cold to Yatora and generally avoidant of both him and Hashida, he's shown internally worrying over Yatora when they start college together. I feel like less is known about Yotasuke's relationship with Hashida, so exploring that either as friends(???) might be interesting.
Hashida bridges the gap between the world as Yatora knows it and the Art World. He's knowledgeable without being condescending, insightful, and supportive on both the art and interpersonal fronts. I enjoy the guidance he provides to Yatora and how they worked together at the children's art school. I also find the bits where he reaches out to Yotasuke and gets shut down very funny.
Takahashi Yotasuke/Yaguchi Yatora
Hashida Haruka/Takahashi Yotasuke
Hashida Haruka/Takahashi Yotasuke/Yaguchi Yatora idk if this is a thing but I would like it to be a thing
Visual Prison

Characters: Robin Lafitte, Jack Mouton (physical age up if needed)
Even though "agegap twincest vampires" is a fun gimmick, the appeal for me is in the dynamic between Jack and Robin and their contrast in personality and world views rather than their physical ages. The size difference and perceived age gap is fine when played for comedy. In NSFW writing, I would prefer not focusing on how childlike Jack's body is. If aging him up by some means (like vampire magic or just being around for eons), makes this easier for you, go for it.
As soon as I saw Robin rub his cheek against a building at the sound of his twin's voice within, I knew this was going to be my favorite Visual Prison ship (I'm sorry). Robin is an optimistic ray of sunshine with a little bit of violence as a treat. Not going to lie, the line about being "the only one who can hurt [Jack]" was one of my favorites, so if you were planning to explore that, please do.
In contrast, Jack acts cynical and savvier, like he's been around the block. He openly shows his worse traits and doesn't hide how jealous he was of Robin, but they hang out despite this. It's cute. I also appreciate that no matter how much Jack tries to differentiate/separate himself from Robin, he still gets scared and the twins cling to each other.

CW: Terminal illness.

Spoilery Suggested Prompts:
An exploration of the "behind the scenes" work "Hiyono" does, or her thoughts as she tags along with Ayumu during his cases.
What are Ayumu's thoughts knowing that the person who portrayed Hiyono is exactly his type?
"Hiyono" is shown to be up-to-date on Ayumu's condition, but her tight schedule and respect for their arrangement prevent her from reaching out. How does she feel about that distance as she works in Germany?
I am open to a fix-it fic, but I honestly can't envision what that would look like. So if that's something you'd like to explore, go for it.
Suggested Prompts:
- Hiyono drags Ayumu around Tokyo for a much-needed break between mysteries.
- Ayumu uses his god-tier homemaker skills to cook Hiyono dinner.

- Dancing under the stars
- Years after they've left school behind, the two reunite and reminisce

Hashida Haruka/Takahashi Yotasuke/Yaguchi Yatora idk if this is a thing but I would like it to be a thing

- How does their twin and/or Vampire Parent/Child connection affect their relationship?
- Twins go on a sweets tour of Harajuku
- Since they have forever, how would their relationship change over 100 years?
- That one time Jack came to lowkey comfort Robin by bullying him, but more of it.
- Singing together
